According to the National Education Association, ongoing research shows that "family engagement in schools improves student achievement, reduces absenteeism, and restores parents' confidence in their children's education. Students with involved parents or other caregivers earn higher grades and test scores, have better social skills, and show improved behavior" (NEA, 2014).
Families and districts can enhance learning for students by actively partnering together. There are many models, frameworks and resources to support building partnerships with families. The Region 12 SST can support educational entities in supporting these models and fostering family and community partnerships.
Region 12 State Support Team offers several learning
opportunities to our local school districts and families residing in Belmont,
Carroll, Harrison, Jefferson, Monroe, Coshocton, Guernsey, Morgan, Muskingum,
Noble, Perry (Northern Local only) and Tuscarawas counties. Our family
engagement consultant connects families to a Parent Mentor within our
region and provides information to anyone willing to become a parent mentor to
help families of students with disabilities.
The State Support team consultant can also provide resources to
families that need support navigating state and federal special education initiatives, laws
and regulations for children birth through age 21.
