2020 Franklin B Walter Outstanding Educator Award Recipient Amanda Ponsetti 8/25/2020
Amanda is a highly motivated high school intervention specialist who goes above and beyond for her students and is an asset to her district. She is constantly trying to find different ways to motivate her high school students and to keep up-to-date on what’s going on in their lives. Amanda builds a bond with her students that strengthens her ability to instruct them. She incorporated Grid Method which consists of self-pacing lessons that allow her students to work at their own pace and at their own level. Students have become more motivated and have thrived with this method in her class. During the COVID-19 pandemic Amanda worked during her days off to research ways to reach her students successfully and when she was asked to teach virtually, she already had a plan in place. She continued using the technology that she was already incorporating into the classroom to reach her students from their homes during the Stay at Home order. Amanda became an expert with recording Zoom videos, transcribing those recordings and posting information into Microsoft Teams.
