Description:
Are you interested in supporting students in your community? You can help by becoming a Surrogate Parent to a student who requires special education supports and whose parents are unknown or unavailable, the child is in foster care or the child is a ward of the state. Children depend on Surrogate Parents to held assure they have access to free and appropriate education. (To be eligible to be a surrogate parent you cannot be an employee of the Ohio Dept of Education, the school district or any other agency that is involved in the education of care of the child).
At the training session you will: learn why being a surrogate parent matters; Gain understanding of the Rights and Responsibilities of Surrogate Parents; Be given an overview of Special Education Laws & Procedures; Learn how to be an effective collaborative surrogate for children.
Upon completion of the training, the participant will be certified to act as a surrogate parent.
