Title: “Chrome Apps and Extensions to Increase Reading and Writing Accessibility and Comprehension”

Description: On the Internet, most text is digital. Digital text is not static like text on paper. Digital text can be moved, enlarged, read aloud, colored and parceled out in ways that allow our students to increase their comprehension and work on their overall reading mechanics while digesting content. Participants in this session will see several new ways to modify and manipulate the on-screen text. To this end, participants will learn how to access Chrome Apps and Extensions while reading and searching on the Internet. Once this objective is met, participants will learn about the new reading options and styles made possible by free Chrome Apps and Extensions for students online. Participants will then be lead through an exploration of these apps and extensions in order to improve a student's ability to comprehend text.

Title: Equality or Equity in Education?

Description: As educators we know we have to do more than stand up and give lectures in the front of the class and hope students will learn the required material. Our commitment to making all learners successful is evident in the abundance of learning approaches and initiatives-multiple intelligences, learning styles, brain-based learning, differentiated instruction, response to intervention (RTI), and more-that our schools are working hard to implement. Yet if we’re honest, many of us have to admit that no matter how hard we try, the daily realities of making these initiatives work in our real-world classrooms is an ongoing challenge. For teachers everywhere, finding an effective framework for applying these initiatives successfully in our busy, diverse classrooms is a daunting task. One of the most exciting and promising frameworks that has been created to help us achieve our dream is Universal Design for Learning, or UDL. The beauty of UDL is that it’s not just another initiative to add on to the ever-increasing list. This framework brings our learning initiatives together and provides strategies for successfully integrating them into our day-to-day curriculum. Visit this session to see how the UDL framework can change the way Teachers Teach and Students Learn!
